SUPPORT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GIREL 3E KILN

Keramis opened its doors in 2015 with the aim of becoming a place for research and experimentation in ceramic techniques. Artists in residence develop their personal projects here, and the studio team ensures that ceramic skills are passed on by organising courses for different audiences, including with trainers from outside the area.
Keramis is also equipped with electric and gas kilns for firing ceramics, but in 2023 it has decided to acquire a revolutionary new wood-fired kiln, the first of its kind in Belgium. The Girel 3E (Ecological, Economic, Ergonomic) kiln was developed by French ceramist Jean Girel and is designed to develop the artistic and educational activities of the studio, while also being accessible to the community of ceramists who wish to play an active part in the life of the museum.
Crowdfunding
The construction of this innovative kiln is partly financed by the Province of Hainaut and Wallonie-Bruxelles International as part of the Belgium-Tunisia bilateral project of the Passerelle des Arts du Feu. To supplement the funds available and give contributors privileged access to this innovative tool, Keramis has launched a crowdfunding campaign.
The funds raised will be used to cover the ancillary costs associated with building the oven, such as the purchase of materials and the construction of a lean-to to protect it. Contributors will have the opportunity to help build this revolutionary tool and become part of the Keramis story.
The Girel 3E kiln is an example of innovation and commitment to the environment. It offers a more sustainable alternative to kilns powered by fossil fuels, while producing exceptional artistic results.
The new kiln will enable Keramis to continue to expand creative and experimental opportunities for artists in residence and for all those involved in the studio's educational activities.
