Pia Mougeot. Residency Restitution
Winner of the Keramis Residency Award presented at Ceramic Brussels in January 2025, Pia Mougeot (FR) spent 30 days in the museum's workshops.
Her artistic work, rich in colour and characters, brings a smile to the face as much as it impresses. Behind the frankly funny figures, a subtle work is revealed: the volumes of the works impose a deep reflection on their structure and the placement of colours.
For this residency, the artist evokes the playground, fairy tales and gently insulting puns. Yet there is a drama playing out in the background, that of childhood and injunctions, particularly in the lives of women.
The sculptures are reminiscent of those by Clémence van Lunen, also exhibited at Keramis. This is no coincidence, as Pia Mougeot was her student at the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin (FR). She emerged from this teaching relationship with a certain character (both personal and artistic) and the desire to ‘become one body’ with her works.
