Jeanne and Georges Vercheval. The possibility of a portrait

Immerse yourself in the world of Georges and Jeanne Vercheval through their gifts to Keramis. The exhibition features portraits, ceramics and the couple's feminist activism.

Last autumn, Georges Vercheval brought together a series of photographs taken during reports from potters' studios in the 1960s and 1970s. This series of black-and-white prints in various formats shows views of workshops and portraits, some of the artists at work with their hands in the clay. These documents are invaluable to Keramis, as some of the artists who have disappeared, such as Pierre Caille, Antoine de Vinck and Mirko Orlandini, belong to the pantheon of Belgian ceramists of the last century.

In recent years, Georges and Jeanne Vercheval have also donated works by ceramicist friends such as Marc Feulien and Monika von Boch, the latter a member of the family that founded the Louvier earthenware factory. The Jeanne and Georges Vercheval collection will be showcased at Keramis in conjunction with the work of Rachel Labastie and Nicolas Delprat. The exhibition will also highlight the feminist activism of Jeanne Vercheval, initiator of the Marie Mineur movement in Wallonia, and the struggle she waged alongside Maria Moreau, a trade unionist at the Boch earthenware factory.
