Through photography and video, Hervé Charles explores the ambiguities of representation. Landscape and the presence of natural elements are among his main themes. For instance, he captures the states of water, including gaseous (with series on clouds), liquid (waterfalls, green tides, and oil slicks), or solid, as well as the molten rock of volcanoes (magma). These photographs were taken in the Rio Tinto region, in a village named "Minas de Rio Tinto". The photographer explores abandoned mining sites there. The images show this relationship of the colour of water to iron ore. The latter is a very important active principle in ceramics. Beyond the observation, Hervé Charles's photographs transport us into another ethereal and, in this case, uncanny reality.
