In 2021, the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art et de Design de Limoges launched the collective research-creation project Chromoculture: cultiver la couleur par l'art et le design (Chromoculture: cultivating colour through art and design), which aims to develop a palette of more ecological and sustainable glazes by exploiting local raw materials (minerals, reused earths, or plant ashes) extracted or cultivated in the immediate vicinity of the school in an eco-responsible approach, promoting the short circuit: from the garden to the workshop. The objective is to show the possibility of an alternative to the extractivism of the ceramic industries and their negative effects on the environment. An analysis of the soil around the school showed a high mercury content, the result of gold mining activity in the region. These polluted soils are reused in this project.
