Starting in 2017, the founders of the Vendée-based company Alegina launched preliminary research into the creation of a porcelain paste integrating recycled oyster shells, requiring no earth extraction or mining, which suggests significant energy savings. In the form of a slip, the Kaomer® porcelain thus developed can be cast in moulds and fired at only 1250°C compared to the 1400°C required for hard porcelain. After initial experiments in the workshops of Jean-Louis Puivif in Limoges, Alegina was able to launch its own manufacturing and commercialisation of white and translucent porcelain from this porcelain paste for tableware or for creating jewellery.
