The depletion of kaolin deposits in Haute-Vienne and the cessation of local quarry exploitation starting from the interwar period inspired the artist Flora Basthier, who collected by hand local materials that compose porcelain (kaolin, quartz, and feldspar) to create a medallion she names Dernière porcelaine des terres du Limousin (Last Porcelain from Limousin Soils). This piece echoes the medallion from the Manufacture Grellet, Massié and Fournérat entitled Première porcelaine des terres du Limousin dated 1771, which is the oldest known Limoges porcelain, preserved at the Musée National Adrien Dubouché (ADL 3751). This nod makes visible a reality of Limoges porcelain production and the artist's sensitivity to environmental issues.
