Christian Van Parys lives and works in Longueville (Walloon Brabant, Belgium). He trained with various stoneware ceramicists. His attraction also turned very early towards earthenware and tin-glazed pottery. The tiled earthenware stove, an object of long tradition frequently encountered in Baltic and Scandinavian countries, constituted a true object of study for Van Parys. It is a heating method as ingenious as it is ecological. These stoves run on wood and, thanks to the properties of the earthenware and refractory stones they contain, they retain and release heat for a long time. Furthermore, these stoves have often been embellished with patterns and ornaments. Throughout his practice, Christian Van Parys developed an interest in simple shapes and warm colours. To this was added a work of reconstitution and restoration of old tiles in nineteenth- and twentieth-century buildings. He has reconstructed ensembles from the firms Muller or Helman or by artists like Arthur Craco or Alexandre Bigot.
