Topped with a shell, this astonishing stoneware tureen rests on "a fairly free interpretation of the famous 6-cylinder air-cooled engine of the Porsche 911", Daniel Dewar and Grégory Gicquel specify. Like the turbine and the exhaust silencer, the round-shaped mechanical parts merge with the snail, which seems to take possession of them. The work shows an encounter between energies that are completely opposed: an icon of speed on one hand, a symbol of slowness on the other. Transformed into a tureen, the automobile engine becomes a handmade artisanal container. Cleverly fossilised by the artist duo, the engine seems to have been brought to a standstill, as if its energy had been entirely transferred to the clay via the firing of the ceramic.
