On the occasion of his residency at the La Céramique Comme Expérience (CCE) laboratory of ENSAD Limoges in 2023, Charlie Voeltzel produced a small-scale replica of the Casseaux kiln, one of the last survivors of the downdraft kilns of Limoges, in a dual approach of documentation and contemporary creation. The kiln was scanned and rendered by 3D printing, respecting the fundamental technical aspects and thermal properties, with the difference that the refractory clay developed for this project contains 50% waste from a local quarry and 40% porcelain scrap in the form of grog (chamotte). An illustrative and educational model, this work is also a "sculpture-tool" intended to function and progressively accumulate the traces of its use.
