For the artist Kokou Ferdinand Makouvia, ceramics, because they are transformed by fire, are ideal for creating works conceived as tools for communication with spirits present in places or objects. Initially produced for the Musée de la Porte Dorée, each of the seven monumental vases constituting the work, entitled Aze Ze Ame Adre "The seven vases of high initiatory knowledge", is designed as a receptacle for messages, making it a living work. Visitors were invited to deposit papers on which they could write their thoughts. The words were then burned during fire ceremonies by the artist to create an ink used for writing new papers. Fire is thus synonymous with transmission and transition.
