The artist Zhuo Qi is interested in anonymous pieces laden with history: his Bubble-Game series is built around copies of damaged Chinese archaeological sculptures that he completes or repairs using coloured glass bubbles. In these works, produced during a 2020 residency at the Martell Corporate Foundation in Cognac, the aura (historical, artistic, or spiritual) emanating from these statues of warriors or Buddhist figures is made manifest by blown glass, which also suggests the idea of a "breath". For his series The Fragile Accord, the artist collects and restages Chinese porcelains—broken or discarded following a firing defect—to which he applies the same process.
