This wall ceramic occupied the administration hall of the Boch Frères earthenware factory in La Louvière. Its author, Raymond-Henri Chevallier (1900-1959), joined the company in 1937. Born in Auxerre, Chevallier trained at the Beaux-Arts in Lyon before working at the Longwy manufacture from 1924 to 1935, then for two years at Cerabelga in Brussels. From Longwy, he took up the decorative codes of cloisonné enamels which have made the wealth of the Lorraine manufactures until today. The female equivalent of this work—The Earth—is located in another room of the museum. The theme of the four elements was commonly cited in Art Deco. In this case, it involves the figure of Prometheus.
