The Genesis-Bowls series establishes a direct visual link between the chaos of mineral matter and the bowl, an ancestral cultural object and emblem of ceramics in its simplest yet purest form. The base, developed "in strata, echoing natural sedimentation", reveals a lumpy, heterogeneous matter, composed of earth, fragments of broken ceramics, elements of metal, glass, or glazes joined together by fire. From this bubbling emerges a bowl whose glaze, by running, becomes one with the shapeless mass that underlines its underground origin and gives it birth. The artist's gesture seems to fade behind an autonomous process within which the earth, far from being inert, is a fully-fledged actor in the creation.
